Table Talks
What: Van Buren County Table Talks
When: March 24th
Time: 6:30-8:00pm
Where: Roberts Memorial Center
Please plan to attend this one time event to discuss the issues that face the youth of Van Buren County.
All community members are invited to attend; parents, teachers, grandparents, students, law enforcement, health professionals, or just concerned citizens.

Newsletter Articles
The Spring SAFE Newsletter is currently being put together. If you have anything you would like to see in this newsletter you can email it to info@vbsafecoalition.com. The coalition accepts articles or ideas for topics you would like to see covered. They are always interested in what the community would like to hear about so your feedback is valued.
The deadline for submission of articles or idea's is this Friday, March 6th. The newsletter will be distributed to all boxholders in the commuity the first week of April and cover the months of April, May and June. For more information you may contact the SAFE Coalition at 319-293-6412.
(Not all articles submitted will be published due to space constriants but the coalition will make every effort to get all submitted artilces included in the publication.)

We are at the Coalition Academy
Members of the SAFE coalition are attending the CADCA Coalition Academy this week in Des Moines.
The purpose of the Academy is to develop the ability to successfully implement the Strategic Prevention Framework. Which means; they will be gaining the information and tools to build a stronger coalition.
After this week the coalition members will be sharing the information they learned with all members of the coalition through upcoming meetings. The coalition members will then attend two additional weeks of training to build upon what they have learned and shared with the coalition.
This is an exciting opportunity for the coalition and we are looking forward to what is to come in the upcoming months of the Academy.

CADCA Forum
The CADCA Forum was very informative for both Heidi and Tonja.
Tonja was able to get a lot of information about the STOP Act grant that she is working on. She got information on exactly what they are looking for out of those grants. She also was able to obtain information about Substance abuse and mental health prevention, intervention and treatment which should help in the line of work we are in.
Heidi was able to gather planning information for writing the year 6 competitive renewal for the DFC grant. This information will give her insights into what they are looking for from the applicants and how to write a good strong application for funding. Heidi will begin this process over the next few months so that all items are in line for the renewal next spring.
Both Heidi and Tonja were able to participate in the Capitol Hill day where they spoke with senators and congressmen about supporting the DFC program and the support 21 ACT. They met with a staffer from Loebsacks office, Senator Grassley, and congressman Boswell. They were not able to meet with Senator Harkin due to scheduling conflicts.
It was a very good conference and both coalition members came back overloaded with information they will be sharing with the entire coalition in the coming months! Stay Tuned!

We are in Washington DC
Heidi Bainbridge and Tonja Jirak are working this week in DC. They are attending the CADCA Forum. The intent of this forum is to enhance the skills of the coalition members. They will be bringing back a wealth of information to share with the community. The information should energize the coalition and help to make strides in the way of underage drinking as well as community partnerships.
