The Van Buren County SAFE Coalition is planning a spring event on underage drinking. They have secured a well know speaker knowledgeable in brain development. Dr. Richard Newkirk has an extensive background in education, having worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, principal, superintendant and college professor. Dr. Newkirk is currently a counselor and does speaking engagements in regard to brain anatomy. He has worked on autopsied brains in the clinical setting, researched brains with various pathologies, and has been featured in documentaries dealing with the human brain. The coalition is excited to work with Dr. Newkirk to bring valuable information to Van Buren County about the damages underage drinking has on a developing brain.
